Newport Junction Improvement Scheme Nears Completion

A project that further improves cycling and pedestrian routes on the outskirts of Newport is drawing to an end.

Since early January, Island Roads has been working to improve the junction with Mews Lane and Fairlee Road and linking it with the new all-weather shared-use path between the Riverside Centre and Mews Lane that was created last year.

The final part of the project will be surfacing works and this is scheduled to be done under a full road closure next week on Monday and Tuesday nights (February 20 and 21) between 7.30pm and 6am.

An Island Roads spokesperson said:

“So far during the scheme we have worked under two-way lights and we’d like to thank the local community for its co-operation during the project.

"It really has been appreciated.

“The final surfacing is being done under a full road closure but at night-time when the roads are obviously quieter.

"We’d like to thank residents and business in advance for their continued support.”

Access to properties in the closed section of Fairlee Road - from a point 100 metres north to a point 100 metres south of Mews Lane - will be maintained as long as it is safe to do so.

A diversion will be in place during the road closure which will be signposted.
