An Isle of Wight mother says she is “horrified” after she claimed to find a dead slug in her son’s Cadbury Easter Egg.
Mondelez International, which owns the chocolate giants, said it would investigate the incident.
Sara Handley, from Newport, told Isle of Wight Radio the egg was bought by a family member from Waitrose, East Cowes on March 28.
It was given as a gift to Sara’s son, who has special needs.
As he went to crack it open, Sara says he discovered what appeared to be a dead slug.
Pictures taken by Sara seem to show slime and a slug partially melted into the chocolate.
Sara said she has contacted Cadbury only to be told to “call back on Tuesday”. She said she posted the images on Facebook to make people aware.
The egg, which is a Dairy Milk Buttons egg, has a best before date of July 31, 2022.
A Mondelez spokesperson said:
“We’re sorry to hear about this experience.
“Quality is of paramount importance to us, and we will contact the customer so we can carry out a full and thorough investigation.”
