Traffic in Newport has been described as at a 'gridlock' this afternoon (Friday), as one lane of the dual carriageway is closed to allow for works at St Mary's Junction.
Approaches to Coppins Bridge, including from Sandown (ASDA), Fairlee, and Newport High Street are all congested, with some motorists reporting 40-minute delays to St Mary's from St George's Way.
Roads into St Mary's junction are also exhibiting delays, with Newport's industrial estate full of queued traffic.
Island Roads said it expects the works to be complete by mid-afternoon.
