Newport's Popular Day Of Christmas Event Returns Next Month

Phot from Julian Winslow.

Newport's popular Day of Christmas is returning next month (November), with organisers promising "a bigger and better" event than last year.

Newport Quay will host an ice rink, as well as inflatable assault course, snow globe (weather permitting), a circus workshop and food stalls.

This year it is taking place on Saturday, November 19 in St James' Square, St Thomas' Square and the Quay.

The Christmas lights switch on will be held at St Thomas’ Square at 5.50pm.

A Christmas market will also return. Market Days CIC director, Claire Kennard, said:

“Market Days CIC will be back in St Thomas Square with a large Christmas market and we are really delighted to be part of this fabulous event.

"Newport has seen some fantastic events over this year including the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and it is wonderful to be a small part of this movement to regenerate Newport and bring the community together.”

The synthetic ice rink will be based in the car park along Newport Quay.

The event is organised by NCCC alongside Market Days CIC and SKATES, which is providing free roller-skating sessions.

Owner Mark Rooney said:

“I built SKATES for our island community to enjoy. What better way to say that than by offering our venue for all to enjoy at this Day of Christmas event? What fun!”

Bookings for the free sessions open 10am on Wednesday, November 2, here - www.newportwight.org.uk/bookings.
