Newport's The Castle Inn Broken Into Overnight

The Castle Inn pub in Newport has been broken into overnight.

It's alleged that the premises was breached sometime between 11.30pm last night (Monday) and 6.30am today.

Some damage has been caused inside the pub, according to the pub's owners - along with cash and spirits being taken.

CCTV footage is being reviewed.

The owners have told Isle of Wight Radio they are 'heartbroken'.

Landlord, Simon Cant, told Isle of Wight Radio:

"We are heartbroken and gutted.

"We have worked so hard to keep this little family running, especially after all we have been through with the pandemic.

"We've looked closely and it appears that cash and alcohol has been stolen.

"We feel sorry for our staff because it will impact on all of us. This just makes a hard year, even worse.

"If anyone has information, then please let us know so we can locate the person who has done this."

Posting on Facebook, The Castle Inn, said:

"We are absolutely heartbroken to report that overnight we have been broken into, our staff are safe and nothing appears to have been taken, thankfully we have CCTV and we will be looking through all of this in great detail this morning (Monday).

"We have suffered Considerable damage to our function room, in which most of you know we have only very recently had refurbished, that damage is minimal in comparison to what could’ve been, but as a small family run business, this is a set back we can’t afford,so we would like to find out who needs to be held accountable for the damages, any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!

"Did anyone witness anything suspicious near the pub or in the areas surrounding between the hours of 11:30pm-6:30am, If anyone has any information, or thinks they saw / heard anything suspicious between these times, we urge you to please get in contact with us.⭐️

"As you can all imagine this is absolutely devastating for us all to be greeted with, due to this I’m sure you will understand that the pub may be open later than usual today."

⭐️FURTHER UPDATE⭐️ After reviewing our CCTV we now have a clear timeline of when the incident occurred! So if anyone saw...
