Oakfield Protest: Parents And Teachers Campaign Against Proposed Ryde Primary School Closure

(c) Leif Marriner

Parents of pupils from Ryde's Oakfield Primary have been campaigning this morning (Thursday) against the closure of the school

Dozens of people attended the protest, with a regular procession of vehicles beeping horns in a show of support.

Teddy bears have been attached to a nearby gate to represent the children who will be affected by the proposed closure.

It comes following news that the Isle of Wight Council plans to close six Island schools.

The move would see Cowes, Arreton, Oakfield, Brading, Wroxall and Godshill primary schools potentially shut their doors within the next 12 months.

A meeting to further discuss the impending closure of Oakfield takes place at St John’s Church Hall in Ryde tonight from 7pm.
