With a month to go until Walk the Wight 2021, Islanders have been urged to sign up in support of Mountbatten.
The iconic walk will return on 12 September – four months later than usual due to the Covid pandemic.
However, its importance to Mountbatten is higher than ever.
Nigel Hartley, Mountbatten CEO, said:
“We always knew this year would be a bit different but Walk the Wight is so vital to us, we are determined to make it as successful as we possibly can.
“It is our biggest fundraising event and we need people to get behind it.
“Our fundraising income, generally, is down by 30 percent compared to other years and we have to do all we can to make up the shortfall.
“The more support we have for Walk the Wight, the better our chances of doing that.
“Please get behind us and get involved in Walk the Wight in any way you can, it is our flagship event and we want to bring everyone together again, following the months of isolation and lockdown over the past year or so.
“It will certainly be an inspiring and emotional sight to see.”
Walkers can take on all 26 miles across the Island, from Bembridge to The Needles, or walk half the main route, either Bembridge to Carisbrooke or Carisbrooke to The Needles.
The eight-mile Flat Walk along the cycle path from Sandown to Newport is also available, or if people prefer, there is still the option of clocking up miles in their own way, following its success last year during lockdown.
