Expert Bomb Disposal teams were called to a piece of suspected ordnance in Bembridge yesterday (Tuesday).
Roads were closed in and around Bembridge and St Helens after the ordnance - thought to have been a hand grenade - was first discovered on the banks of the harbour.
Experts from the Royal Navy were called in and made the short trip across to the Island.
After assessing the object, the decision was made to conduct a controlled explosion at Silver Sands.
Roads reopened shortly after.
