They both pleaded guilty to conspiring to convey a list ‘A’ prohibited article into prison.
This follows an investigation by the South East Regional Crime Unit (SEROCU) Prison Intelligence Team.
On Friday (26/5) at Reading Crown Court, Adam Ward, aged 39, of HMP The Verne and Nicola Hine, aged 50, of Lampton Road, Hounslow were sentenced to one year and eight months’ and one year and four months’ respectively.
Between November 2019 and July 2020, Ward and Hine conspired to smuggle sheets of spice paper into HMP Isle of Wight where Ward was imprisoned at the time.
Hine concealed the drug paper within post and fake legal documents, using the postal service to have them delivered into the prison which were intercepted.
Ward and Hine were charged on 10 August 2022.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Robbie Scott, of The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team , said:
“This sentencing reflects the hard work and collaboration by the police and prison service.
“It highlights the serious nature of conveying drugs into prisons which have a damaging effect on good order as well as the safety of prisoners and staff.
“The team will continue to pursue those offenders who choose to commit this type of criminality.”
