Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council and ERMC have planted 48 trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy.
The seven standard Field Maple trees — planted next to the existing woodland in Vectis Field off Wellington Road in Newport — each represent a decade of the Queen’s reign in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.
In addition, 40 additional saplings, a mix of Field Maple, Willow, Beech, Hornbeam and Rowan, will complement the existing trees in the area.
The groups have also sown a wildflower seed mix specifically for woodland edge areas between the existing woodland and recreational area.
Cllr Shirley Smart, vice chair of Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council, said:
“It was a lovely early spring afternoon reflecting the quiet beauty of this corner of Vectis Fields and as of this year.
"It is hoped the field will be used widely by the community, for example football pitches have been painted and goalposts purchased to allow adult and youth football.”
