Police have confirmed that bones found on an Isle of Wight beach are not human remains - despite earlier local media headlines to the contrary.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were contacted by a member of the public about the discovery of possible human remains on a beach in Bembridge just before 7:40pm on Saturday (13 April).
It was reported that those were human remains, although this has proven inaccurate following further investigation.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed:
"We have now received confirmation from Home Office pathologists that the discovery is not human remains.
"The investigation has now concluded."
