Police: ‘Do Not Travel Across The Isle Of Wight For Exercise’

Police are telling people not to travel from one side of the Isle of Wight to the other, for exercise.

Police have said that people should be following Government lockdown guidance and ‘staying local’ to where they live.

People are currently only allowed to meet one other person from another household, outside - and for exercise only.

An update is expected on Monday (22) about when national restrictions will be eased, when the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, outlines his roadmap.

With schools set to reopen on March 8, it’s hoped non-essential retail will follow suit, before pubs and restaurants - and even outdoor events.

Some coastal parts of the Island have been noticeably busier in recent days, as people get out to enjoy the fresh air and slightly milder weather.

But responding to a comment on the Isle of Wight Police Facebook Page, Sgt Radford said:

“...if you can not walk your dog directly from your door, a short trip is acceptable but certainty not from one side of the island to the other. It should be somewhere away from a lot of people.

“Officers will be out tonight (Thurs), tomorrow and all over the weekend. Where possible we will engage with the public to ensure people are following the law.

“Fingers crossed for some positive news on Monday.”
