
A man ended up in the River Medina this afternoon (Monday) after being chased by several police officers.
It is reported that an on-foot pursuit resulted in the man ending up in the water close to Coppins Bridge.
Around half a dozen police vehicles are said to have been involved in the initial pursuit.
We have contacted Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary for more information on the incident.
UPDATE 4.20PM
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"We were called just after 2.30pm to a report of a man trying car door handles in Royal Exchange, Newport.
"When officers attended the suspects fled the scene on foot but were apprehended following a short pursuit.
"An 18-year-old male from Sandown and a 15-year-old male from Newport were both arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs."
