Police on the Isle of Wight have seized a number of vehicles for various offences, including no insurance and suspected drug driving.

Officers made a number of stops on the Island throughout yesterday (Saturday).

The first, was a Peugeot on St Georges away, Newport which was suspected of having no insurance.

The second, was a stop at Tesco Petrol Station in Ryde, for the same reason.

The third stop of the day saw a black Citroen pulled over near the Yarbridge crossroads in Brading - again for no insurance.

A Ford van, allegedly being used for business purposes, was also seized for not having the correct insurance cover.

A car involved in a crash on the Military Road was later found to also have no insurance. Police said the car wasn’t checked at the time of the incident, due to a ‘technical issue’.

A Ford Focus was stopped on Carlton Road, Ryde and the driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving, after failing roadside drug swipes for cannabis and cocaine.

A motorbike was also stopped, with a lack of insurance leading to it being seized.

The owners of the vehicles will need to produce valid insurance documents before the vehicle will be returned. The drivers will also face a fine of £300 and 6 points.

Sgt Radford said on Facebook:

“Well done to our officers, not only have they been seizing vehicles they have also been going to calls from the public and working on other investigations.

“The vehicles will incur recovery and storage fees, if they are not collected, they will be sold or crushed.

“If you do not have valid documents to make you legal on the road, then you will need to take public transport.

“It’s not worth the risk on being held personally liable for damage or injury.”
