EXCLUSIVE: A man - who was armed with a knife - had to be tasered, before being arrested after getting off a ferry in East Cowes last night (Monday).
Police were called at 9.54pm to a report that a man - suspected to have been driving under the influence of alcohol - had boarded a car ferry from Southampton to East Cowes.
Officers attended the Red Funnel ferry terminal and located the man, a 40-year-old from Havant, who was found to be in possession of a knife.
He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and remains in custody at the current time.
An investigation into the circumstances of this incident is underway.
Police also confirmed to Isle of Wight Radio that a Taser was deployed during the arrest.
Leanna Lakes, Operations Director at Red Funnel, said:
“Last night (Monday 6 February) the police were called to attend a disruptive passenger onboard the Red Osprey.
Our team assisted the police with their enquiry and defused the situation quickly, there was no impact to timetables.”
