Powerless Day Boat Towed By Lifeboat Into River Medina

It was a case of so near yet so far for a River Medina-based day boat when it suffered engine trouble in the Solent near the entrance of Cowes Harbour, resulting in it having to be rescued by Cowes RNLI lifeboat.

The boat, with two people on board, lost power just west of the harbour entrance, when wind over tide conditions meant their anchor was unable to prevent the craft steadily drifting westwards.

Having launched at 4.28pm, the lifeboat proceeded to tow the boat into the harbour and then on to the river beyond the floating bridge where an alongside tow took it to its mooring on a pontoon off the aggregate wharf.

The lifeboat returned to at 5.30pm.
