Problems Booking Your COVID Vaccine On The Isle Of Wight? - 'Continue To Check'

71 year old Paul Carpenter was the first to have the jab at the Riverside Centre

If you’re having difficulty booking your coronavirus vaccine on the Isle of Wight "continue to check the booking system", says the NHS.

Some Islanders have raised concerns about being directed to the mainland for their jab, once no slots are available on the Island.

The NHS says you will be offered an appointment on the mainland 'as an alternative'.

Islanders are encouraged to continue to check the online booking system 'regularly' as 'more slots will become available'.

An NHS spokesperson told Isle of Wight Radio:

‘Those currently eligible for a vaccine will be invited by the NHS to book an appointment.

‘Isle of Wight residents will be able to receive their vaccination on the Island. If people are unable to book an appointment on the Island, the national booking system may offer an appointment on the mainland as an alternative. People should continue to check the booking system regularly as more slots on the Island will become available.’

Last week the Island's MP said he was 'chasing up' why some Islanders were being redirected to Portsmouth for their vaccine

MP Bob Seely said: 'Islanders should NOT go to Portsmouth for their jab.'

There are six vaccination sites on the Isle of Wight, 4 GP- led ones, St Mary’s Hospital and the Riverside Centre in Newport, which opened on Monday (1), as exclusively reported by Isle of Wight Radio.

You can book your vaccine online here.
