Isle of Wight Liberal Democrats have announced a candidate in the party’s bid to fill an empty seat on the Isle of Wight Council.
Throwing his hat into the ring, for Ventnor and St Lawrence, is Ray Harrington-Vail, formerly of the energy charity, Footprint Trust.
Also running are Ventnor Haven’s Ed Blake, for the Conservative party and town mayor, Steve Cooper, for the Labour Party.
A by-election will be held on December 21, following the resignation of Gary Peace, in October.
"Genuine vision for the Island."
Ray Harrington-Vail, a valued director of Wight Community Energy, said the Liberal Democrats have a “genuine vision for the Island”, balancing “the interests of economy, the environment and the community, seeking a fair deal for ordinary people.”
He would support the residents of Ventnor and St Lawrence in the current cost-of-living crisis and make the Island a better place, he said.
The last date to register to vote in the by-election is Tuesday, December 5.
If you need a postal vote, the last date to register is Wednesday, December 6.
If you need a proxy vote, applications need to be in by 5pm on Wednesday, December 13.
This will be the second Isle of Wight by-election to require photo ID. If you don’t have one, applications for a free ‘voter authority certificate’ must be made by December 13.
