In line with Red Funnel’s ongoing investment into maintenance and improving the reliability of its fleet, the company has affirmed that Red Jet 7 will now take its turn for annual refit following on from Red Jet 6, which returned to service early last month.
Red Jet 7 will undergo her refit at Wight Shipyard from 26 January through to 16 February inclusive.
During this time, Red Funnel will run a temporary timetable, which can be found here.
Notable work will include the installation of a new sewage treatment system, which will improve the reliability of the on-board toilets.
Alongside the completion of annual MCA and DNV surveys, additional planned works include overhauling the vessel’s waterjets, generator and engine maintenance, the installation of new carpeting, and repairs to the vessel’s exterior wrapping.
Leanna Lakes, Operations Director at Red Funnel, said:
"Our planned annual refit allows us to undertake essential maintenance to ensure we can maintain a reliable and safe fleet for our customers.
"To minimise disruption, we have purposely scheduled the work to take place during a period of lower demand, ensuring that we’re ready for our peak season.
“We are also pleased to affirm the installation of our new sewage treatment system, which marks a significant step forward in resilience and reliability.
Our previous system faced considerable wear and tear, exacerbated by items being flushed that shouldn’t be.
"While we continue to remind passengers that only toilet paper should be flushed, this new, more robust system will significantly improve the availability of onboard toilets, ensuring a smoother and more reliable experience for everyone."
