Island Roads and the Isle of Wight Council are reminding residents that diversions will be in place during forthcoming night-time work to resurface St George’s Way in Newport.
The work marks the final phase of the major scheme designed to improve traffic flows through the section.
From tonight (Wednesday), the road will be closed between 7pm and 6am in both directions to allow the resurfacing work which will be carried out nightly (including weekends) until 6am on Friday, August 27. The road will be re-opened outside the resurfacing times — during the day.
As part of this resurfacing, new road linings will be applied to create an additional lane at the Matalan roundabout to separate traffic wanting to travel right to Church Litten from that wishing to go straight across the roundabout towards Blackwater. There will also be additional lane space for traffic entering Coppins Bridge.
During resurfacing, the advised diversion for northbound traffic will be via St George's Approach, Medina Avenue, Church Litten, South Street, East Street and Coppins Bridge.
For southbound traffic it will be via Snooks Hill, Staplers Road, Long Lane, Downend Road, A3056 and Blackwater Road.
The pedestrian crossing on St George's Way from/to Furrlongs will be maintained throughout the works.
