Rev Amanda Collinson, vicar of the Northwood and Gurnard churches in Cowes, will scale one of her steepest challenges this summer on behalf of Newport's end-of-life charity Mountbatten.
This September will see her take on Mount Kilimanjaro alongside friends, in the hope of raising £20,000 for the charity.
They will be climbing in memory of friend Jill who died in June 2021, having been looked after by Mountbatten during her later days.
Rev Amanda said:
"Mountbatten Hospice is the most wonderful of places and sadly I have needed the help of these amazing people too many times since arriving on the Island in 2013.
"In addition to Jill, we will be climbing for my awesome neighbour Val and many lovely parishioners and community members who have had cancer.
"The (staff at Mountbatten) see and hold us when we are at our most vulnerable, and bless them, they consider it a privilege to look after our loved ones in their final weeks and continue to support the families — mentally and emotionally — afterwards."
In addition to the walk, Amanda has teamed up with Hannah Brear and her award-winning Medina Community Choir to hold a concert to raise further funds.
The Gospel concert, to be held at St Mary's Church in Cowes on April 23, will have an unusual twist, with members of the public invited to take part after attending a workshop.
The initiative will see a gospel workshop in the afternoon before the concert, with guests invited to learn two songs for a performance with the choir that evening.
