Revealed: Isle Of Wight Primary School Places

The number of Isle of Wight pupils getting their first choice primary school picks has fallen slightly, compared with last year.

But the Isle of Wight Council says every child has been offered a place as allocations for September are revealed.

Around 95.3 per cent of pupils got their first choice school — down from 96 per cent in 2021.

A total of 1,087 applications were submitted to the council.

Around 97.8 per cent of those gained a spot at one of their preferred schools. The 0.7 per cent of pupils who didn't get any of their preferences, were allocated a place at the nearest school, the council says.

2.2 per cent will attend their second choice, while 0.3 per cent secured their third choice.

Children with Education Health and Care Plans naming the school that can best meet their needs were also allocated places. This accounted for the remaining 1.5 per cent of offers.

Councillor Debbie Andre, cabinet member for children’s services, education and skills, said:

"I'm really pleased to see that the vast majority of applicants gained a place at one of their preferred schools, with most getting their first choice and all children being offered a place.

"I hope that the children and their families will be looking forward to starting their primary education in September.”
