Riverway Retail Fire Prompts Arson Investigation

A fire at a commercial premises in Newport is being investigated for arson, police have confirmed.

As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called to Friends of the Animals on Riverway in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

No was hurt in the incident. The blaze was put out upon police arrival. 

Hampshire Constabulary has since confirmed the fire is being investigated for arson. A spokesperson said:

"We were called shortly before 1am with reports of a fire at Friends of the Animals in Newport.

"Upon police attendance, the fire service had extinguished the fire.

"No-one was injured.

"The incident is being investigated as arson and enquiries are ongoing."
