Royal Mail Responds After Islanders Report Not Receiving Mail Since Christmas

Residents of Ryde and Binstead have reported no mail being delivered to their address for several weeks.

Mrs Ayres, from Binstead, says she has to make trips to either Ryde or Newport to visit the sorting office.

She added that other residents only receive letters if also having a parcel delivered.

Mrs Ayres, who lives on Birch Gardens, told Isle of Wight Radio:

"I haven't received any letters for the past three weeks, and had to pay £13 for mail to be delivered by a private company.

"In addition, a parcel, worth £40, was lost and when we tried ringing the sorting office there was no response.

"I haven't seen our post lady for weeks, it seems parcels are being delivered but not letters. Two lateral flow tests for other people were also mistakenly delivered to our address."

This isn't the only instance of mail not being received by Islanders, with residents of Ryde's West Hill Road and East Hill Road reporting they've had to visit the sorting office in order to collect their mail.

A Royal Mail spokesperson told Isle of Wight Radio:

“In the local area, we are experiencing some delays to service due to high levels of sickness absence, Covid related self-isolation and resourcing issues.

"We apologise to any customers who may have experienced delays to their mail. We have been working hard to get our levels of service back to normal as soon as possible."

Anyone who has concerns over the delivery of their mail is asked to contact the Royal Mail customer service team on 03457 740 740 or via the Royal Mail website.
