Volunteer lifeboat crew members from Yarmouth have today (May 30) completed a rescue the Royal Navy began, of injured children from the sea north of The Needles.

At 10.48 this morning, a report arrived with the town's RNLI that two children had suffered head injuries during a commercial 'experience voyage abord a large RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat).

Crews were told the young people were hurt when the vessel hit a large wave.

According to a spokesperson for Yarmouth RNLI, the volunteer lifeboat crew put out to sea, heading east from Yarmouth Harbour, using their Severn Class all-weather lifeboat, Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer).

At this time, the children, along with two adults also rescued, were already on board another vessel, the Royal Naval patrol boat HMS Ranger.

Navy personnel had performed a rescue of the group one nautical mile north of The Needles.

The lifeboat came alongside the Royal Navy boat in calm waters, just east of Yarmouth, before the casualties were transferred to the RNLI vessel.

Crew members from Yarmouth then returned to harbour with the four people on board.

Ambulances and paramedics met them on arrival (pictured, above).

The RNLI said the lifeboat was returned to her berth, ready for service once more at 11.30am.
