Ryde Beach School Sea Safe Programme To Return This Summer

Ryde Beach Lifeguards Schools Sea Safe program will be returning this June, thanks to the support of Southern Water.

The program is free to schools, and forms part of their pre season drowning prevention education.

This aims to give local children an understanding of the beach lifeguards in Ryde and Sandown, flags, dangers at the beach, cold water shock and how to get help.

Todd Miller, Beach Manager, said:

"As we are surrounded by water on the Isle of Wight, with just two lifeguarded beaches on the Island I feel our pre-season education is so important.

"Where the program is immersive, with children being taken into the sea, we find it is much more effective than our traditional school talks.”

Schools in Ryde, Sandown, Ventnor and East Cowes have been contact to take part in the program.

The aim is to get 1,000 children through the program, in the hope it will help to prevent accidental drownings locally.
