Sandown Airport has been named as the top airfield in the UK.
According to new figures released by SkyDemon, the flight planning/moving map app, the airport is ranked as top among pilots.
Bembridge Airport also made the top ten list.
SkyDemon’s, Tim Dawson, explained how the figures were calculated:
“This is ranked simply by the number of unique visitors in the last two years.
“Anybody who has taken off or landed at the airfield counts for one point, whether they’ve used it 100 times or just once.
“Therefore this isn’t an indication of the amount of traffic at the airfield, just how many unique visitors they’ve had which we think is synonymous with popularity and the amount of things to see/do there.”
Sandown Airport operator, Danial Subhani, said:
"We are thrilled to be named as the number one. We have put a great amount of time and investment into the airport.
"It's wonderful to see it being recognised by so many experienced pilots, and look forward to welcoming pilots and visitors throughout the summer.
"What is also unknown to a lot of people, is that the airport brings in a vast amount of revenue to the Island from visiting pilots."
