Santa Claus In Newport For Christmas Parade And Festivities

Santa Claus and his sleigh are making an appearance at Newport Carnival today (Saturday).

Starting at 5pm, Father Christmas will make his way through the town as part of festivities.

The route can be seen below...

The trip has been organised by Isle of Wight Round Table, a social organisation, which has helped put Saint Nick's sleigh together.

Like previous years, it will be adorned with lights and Christmas music.

Newport is just one of the towns he will be visiting this year. A full list of locations can be found here.

James Metcalfe, from the organisation, said:

"Santa will be on his sleigh coming down the high street!

"The reindeers have still got a bit of rest time before they join him on the big day. Santa is coming down the roads and you can wave, say hello to him and hand him your letters!".

Today (Saturday) will see a host of festivities in the town for the Step Into Christmas event.

Organised by Silver Screens Autographs, Scarrots Lane will be transformed into a winter wonderland.

Live music, Disney characters, choirs, a Christmas market and freshly prepared food are all on offer, organisers say.
