The Sandown and Solent Independent Lifeboat were alerted at 1.30 this morning (April 30) by the Ventnor Coastguard after a pile of clothes were found abandoned on Hope Beach, Shanklin.
An extensive search was made of the shoreline and beach, in darkness, around the Sandown Bay Area but the lifeboat was unable to locate the owner of the clothes.
The Ventnor coastguard simultaneously carried out a search of the beach.
Police were informed and the search was stood down at 2.15am.
