Serious Assault Prompts East Cowes Police Appeal

An appeal has been issued after a man in his 40s was seriously assaulted in East Cowes.

Just before 3am on Saturday, police were called to the esplanade following reports a man was seriously assaulted near a wooded area.

Police say the victim, who is 49, suffered serious head and facial injuries and was taken to St Marys Hospital,.

He remains there today (Monday). 

Detective Constable Adam Gamble, said:

“We are appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to come forward and speak to us. Were you in the area on Friday evening or during the early hours of Saturday morning? Did you see or hear something that could be connected to this incident?”

A 17-year-old boy and 43-year-old man, both from the Isle of Wight, have been arrested on suspicion of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, and have been released under investigation.
