EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Nathaniel Parker Speaks Ahead Of Isle Of Wight-Filmed Drama 'The Beast Must Die'

Nathaniel Parker and the Military Road

Ahead of today's premiere of "gripping" BritBox Drama, The Beast Must Die, filmed on the Isle of Wight, Isle of Wight Radio's been chatting to on-screen star Nathaniel Parker.

EXCLUSIVE

Nathaniel, who is known for The Inspector Lynley Mysteries and Vanity Fair, is playing a psychiatrist in the series.

It is about a mother (Cush Jumbo) wrapped up in her desire for revenge for her son's death - who she believes is killed by a man on the Isle of Wight.

Speaking exclusively to Isle of Wight Radio, Nathaniel said he is “amazed” more filming doesn’t take place here - given the variety of the Island’s “stunning” landscapes.

He said it was a great place to shoot, he exclusively told Isle of Wight Radio:

“It was great, I thought the enthusiasm of the people helped enormously with our production, which doesn’t happen with every production but everyone was really helpful with us.

"Both people who came along as supporting artists or the people who were helping us backstage, driving to and from. It was a great place to film.”

Ahead of the first episode, Isle of Wight Radio also spoke exclusively to the drama’s director Dome Karuski, who said the Isle of Wight was in his top three favourite places to film.

You can read the full interview here.

Nathaniel told Isle of Wight Radio the Island was chosen as a location because “it has more hours of sunshine than anywhere else in the UK” he said his favourite place to shoot was at The Needles.

He joked about the Island's climate and said:

“We were meant to be filming a party scene but because the weather can change on the Isle of Wight very quickly we had to add the line ‘Island weather’!”

“I think if you are an Islander you will recognise a lot of stuff, we managed to include a lot of grown ups and kids and hopefully we have got about half the Island in it! Please do watch.”

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, a cast of hundreds of Islanders took part in the filming, which was done across the Island at locations including in Ryde, East Cowes, Freshwater and Yarmouth.

The suspenseful thriller also features Bafta-winner and Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actor Jared Harris (Chernobyl, The Crown, Mad Men).

He is joined by Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife, Deadwater Fell), Billy Howle (MotherFatherSon, Witness For The Prosecution, On Chesil Beach).

The first two episodes of the five-part thriller will be available on BritBox tonight (Thursday) and it is offering a seven day free trial for people who are not already signed up.

A further three episodes will be shown weekly. The first episode goes live on the streaming service at 9am.
