Two men from Shanklin have been arrested following a serious assault which left a man in his 20s with significant facial injuries.
Police were called at 7.10am this morning (Saturday) to a report of an assault taking place on Atherley Park Close in Shanklin.
A man in his 20s reported he had been assaulted, causing a cut to his eye, and that his wallet, keys and phone had been taken.
Police attended and an officer was assaulted by a man at the scene, sustaining minor injuries.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“We have arrested a 25-year-old man from Shanklin on suspicion of causing Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery, common assault of an emergency worker and criminal damage.
“A 27-year-old man from Shanklin was arrested on suspicion of causing Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent. Both men remain in custody at the current time.”
The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.
An investigation is underway.
