Shanklin's Ruby Cooper Celebrates Her 100th Birthday On Isle Of Wight

Cllr Quigley and Ruby Cooper

An Isle of Wight woman in Shanklin is celebrating turning 100 years old!

Ruby Cooper has lived in Shanklin for the last 50 years - but on the Island her whole life and she turned 100 yesterday (Wednesday).

She worked for the Isle of Wight council and at nights at Blackgang Chine, which is where she met her late husband - who was a bus driver.

In recent months, she has moved into Tile House Care Home on Victoria Avenue in Shanklin.

Because Ruby has been a life-long Labour Party member, she was sent flowers and a card by local Labour members.

She also had a visit from the only Ise of Wight Councillor who holds a Labour seat for Cowes North, Cllr Richard Quigley.

Cllr Quigley told Isle of Wight Radio:

“It was an absolute pleasure to see Ruby, she  is still sharp as a knife and asked us to keep her up to date with the parties activities on the Island, I think so she can keep us on our toes. We all wish her the happiest of birthdays and look forward to seeing her again soon”
