An elderly woman was rescued by firefighters in Freshwater after smoke alarms were heard by neighbours.
Freshwater and Newport fire crews entered the smoke-logged property on Guyers Road last night (Wednesday) after neighbours raised the alarm.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the householder had left a pan on the hob and had fallen asleep, causing the property to fill with smoke.

Firefighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and assisted the resident, who was in a confused state, to safety.
She was assessed and left in the care of the ambulance service.
PPV was used to rid the property of smoke, before firefighters stood down from the shout.
