Special Commemoration Service To Be Held In Newport To Remember The Queen

A special commemoration service marking the death of Her Majesty The Queen will be held in Newport Minster this weekend, with Island residents invited to pay their respects.

The commemoration service, which takes place on the eve of the State Funeral, will reflect upon the life and work of The Queen and will include prayers both for her and the Royal Family.

Led by the Acting Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight, Rev Allie Kerr, the service will host invited local dignitaries including His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon.

The service will also feature the choirs of the parish of Newport and Carisbrooke and the Isle of Wight Cantata Choir.

The Commemoration Service is to take place at 6pm on Sunday (18).

Island residents are warmly invited to attend, although capacity is limited. The service will, however, also be live streamed to screens in St Thomas' Square.

Those unable to attend will also be able to follow the live-streaming of the service on Newport Minster's YouTube channel.

The Isle of Wight Proclamation

Crowds gathered outside the minster last Sunday, to watch the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Kay Marriott, read The Proclamation announcing the start of His Majesty King Charles III's reign.

It was also broadcast via Facebook Live and can be viewed again on the Isle of Wight Council's YouTube channel.

Flags have been lowered to half-mast at County Hall, and a number of public meetings and engagements have been cancelled or postponed, including Full Council on 21 September, as a mark of respect.

Funeral

The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday (19) at 11am.

Prior to the State Funeral, The Queen will Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall for four days, to allow the public to pay their respects.

Visit the Royal website to read further information on the State Funeral arrangements.

A minute's silence will be held across the country at 8pm on Sunday as a national moment of reflection in memory of Her Late Majesty.

Monday will be a Bank Holiday to coincide with the State Funeral. His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon, will attend the service.
