St George's Way Turns One-Way As Major Newport Works Begin

A one-way system is coming into place on Newport's St George's Way in the next 24 hours, as the first phase of major works commence.

The first planned closure is from the Furrlongs exit to St George's Way.

The Isle of Wight Council says it will be in force from overnight tonight or tomorrow (Saturday).

Traffic will be able to drive up the road towards St George's Roundabout, but cannot go the other way towards Coppins Bridge.

From Monday (15), traffic will not be able to come from Pan/Furrlongs onto St George's Way.

A one-way system will also come into place past Church Litten and South Street.

The Isle of Wight Council is planning to widen the road to "improve traffic flows" in this area of the town.

The project follows the recently completed works at St Mary’s junction.

Drivers have been warned to 'allow extra time for journeys' as the six month scheme begins.
