Start Your Engines! Racing Set To Return With Annual Sandown Sprint

With just a couple of weeks to go, the Island Car Centre Sandown Sprint is ready for the starting lights to turn green.

Race car entries are up on last year, with more than 90 cars confirmed as starters over the weekend of March 25 and 26.

Last year’s fastest driver overall, Will Nicholls, will be defending his crown, while closest rival Damien Bradley will also be heading back over to the Isle of Wight.

Damien set the fastest overall time, with Will most consistent over both days.

The paddock will be based at Yaverland and spectators are encouraged to enjoy the cars at close quarters and meet the drivers.

Will commented:

”It was the most fantastic weekend last year. A real family atmosphere which you would not normally see at a traditional race circuit.

"There’s definitely something very special about closing public roads and racing so close to the town centre.

"Sandown is starting to make a real name for itself in motorsport.”

The racing is organised by the Isle of Wight Car Club which has been running motor sport events on the Island since the 1950s.

Because of the scale of the Sandown Sprint, the club is supported by mainland officials and marshals from Motorsport UK and other southern motor clubs.

Chairman of the Car Club, Malcolm Smith, added:

“The Sprint has quickly become our club’s most prestigious and popular event of the year.

"We’ve been delighted with the number of cars and drivers who have entered and especially the additional Island drivers who are now taking part.

There’s been a significant increase in our membership after the success of last year and we hope to see many more joining us during 2023.”

Spectators looking to save money on the box office ticket price should book via the website soon.

Adult tickets are £10 when booked online, saving 20%.
