Storm Eunice Causes Serious Damage At Sandown's Wight Aviation Museum

Storm Eunice caused serious damage to Sandown's Wight Aviation Museum on Friday (18) — ripping off a section of the roof.

Further disaster was averted thanks to the swift action of team members, who managed to protect the most exposed exhibits.

Volunteers worked quickly to secure other exhibits yesterday (Monday), lowering the P51 'Mustang' model and storing it safely away.

Wight Aviation Museum Chairperson, Helen Blake, said:

"It's times like these that our volunteer team work well together to save all the effort that has been put in to establishing the new and exciting Wight Aviation Museum over the last three years!"

The team at the museum, based at Sandown Airport, are hoping that the roof can be repaired quickly.

They plan to have a have a "grand opening" for the public in spring, early April.

A crowd funding campaign, to raise funds for the restoration of the damaged exhibits, is due to be published soon.
