A 175-year-old Grade II listed building in Ventnor collapsed after being hit by strong winds during stormy weather over the weekend.

The damage done to the building, based on the Ravenscourt, has resulted in a nearby Renault van being destroyed by falling debris.

The partial collapse happened over the weekend while the coastal town experienced adverse weather.

A resident of Ventnor said:

"There a loud thudding sound that echoed down the street.

"Having seen the damage, it was quite astounding - although, I understand the owner is based in Portugal, so I'm not sure if he's aware of what's happened!"

As a result of the incident, 15 nearby homes have been affected, with debris blocking their driveway.

The tower villa was built in the mid-1800s.
