Island Roads will be using the summer holidays to undertake highway improvement work on several roads that serve local schools.
Among roads to be improved during late July and August are The Fairway at Lake which leads to The Bay Academy, Grove Road in Ventnor which serves St Catherine’s School and also Oxford Street in Northwood which is a main route to Northwood Primary.
Footway improvement work is scheduled for Manor Road, Sandown, Sunnyhill Close in Lake and Green Lane, Shanklin which are routes heavily used for travel to Broadlea and Gatten and Lake primary schools.
Currently, the work at the Fairway is expected to last around three weeks, the work at Grove Road a week and Oxford Street six days. Further details of these schemes will be given on information boards at each location and affected residents will receive a letter explaining more about the work prior to commencement.
So the work can be completed as quickly and as safely as possible, all the roads will be closed during the improvement work with the exception of Green Lane where traffic will be controlled by temporary lights. In all cases, pedestrian access and access to properties will be maintained as long as it is safe to do so.
An Island Roads spokesperson said:
“Though we do try to limit work in the main summer months this is a good time for us to improve roads serving schools as they are obviously less busy during the holidays.
“Clearly it is impossible to undertake any such work without causing some local inconvenience and we would like to thank residents in advance for their understanding and co-operation.”
