The George Hotel in Yarmouth has received a one-star food hygiene rating.
The management of food safety and hygienic food handling are two areas inspectors noted 'major improvement is necessary'.
This includes the hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.
It also wants the hotel, which charges up to £435 per night for a room, to improve the checks in place that ensure food sold or served is safe to eat.
The inspection, which was carried out in September, is also asking the hotel on Quay Street to provide evidence that its staff know about food safety.
However, inspectors noted the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building - to enable good food hygiene - were 'generally satisfactory'.
