Hoards of people are expected to ignore official advice and take part in the annual St Helens and Bembridge fort walk over the weekend.
However, the Isle of Wight Council, and the Safety Advisory Group, are appealing for people to reconsider. |
As in previous years controlled parking and access will be in place on Duver Road, St Helens. The council said it is doing so, so that parking along the narrow road does not block access for residents and emergency vehicles. A spokesman for the group said: “The fort walk is an informal event with no organiser and anyone choosing to do the walk does so at their own risk. “In previous years we have asked people not to attempt the walk and people have respected that. “Please do not put yourselves, volunteers and emergency services at risk. We are grateful to those people who choose not to take part, but to anyone who is thinking about undertaking the walk our advice to them is please stay away and enjoy one of the many safer beaches on the Island instead. “It will also be another hot weekend and if anyone is out and about please follow the advice to stay hydrated, safe and well.” |
