Police have made arrests after three women were assaulted in Newport.
As previously reported, two women had been drinking in the Hogshead on the High Street, and left the bar at around 1.45am on Saturday January 21 . They walked across St Thomas Square and through the alleyway to Pyle Street.
At some point on their journey they were joined by three men, who assaulted both of the women following an altercation at the Pyle Street and Town Lane junction at around 2.10am.
One of the women sustained a broken wrist during this incident, and a third woman was assaulted as she tried to intervene.
The men responsible left the scene on foot.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said that a 25-year-old man from Freshwater was arrested on January 27 on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been bailed with conditions until 27 April.
This morning (Thursday), officers arrested a 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, both from Newport, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and assault by beating. They remain in custody at this time.
