Damage has been caused to Ryde's Christmas tree in a suspected attack by mindless vandals.

Ryde Town Council says it will now have to pay out to replace the decorations on the tree in Minghella Square, after they were apparently ripped off overnight.

The latest suspected 'attack' follows a spate of vandalism that prompted officials to cut back on the amount of festivities across the town.

Residents have called the damage 'abhorrent' as the town's festive centrepiece remains unlit.

It's not known if reports have been made to the police - but nearby businesses are being asked to check their CCTV.
