The unexpected full closure of Queen's Road is causing lengthy delays heading into Ryde this afternoon (Monday).
Ongoing Southern Water work has resulted in the road being shut in both directions.
Traffic is said to be queued back as far as Quarr Hill.
Works on the road have led to disruption for more than four months now.
It was first shut to allow for Island Roads to fix a wall, before it was closed in one direction by Southern Water because of a burst sewer.
Drivers are being diverted up Argyll Street.
Southern Vectis buses are also being diverted.
Queens Road in Ryde has been closed in both directions. As a result, routes 4 and 9 will enter and leave Ryde via Argyll Street instead. Due to these works, the stops on Queens Road will not be served.
