Twin boys who fled the war in Ukraine have joined a Newport football team.
Eight-year-old brothers, Denys and Artem, came to the Island with their mother under the Home for Ukraine scheme when their country was invaded by Russia earlier this year.
Like many other Ukrainians, the family had to adapt to a new way of life — a new language, new schools and unfamiliar accommodation.
Keen footballers themselves, the boys spotted a local team training during a walk in Wootton over the summer, and their mother, Tetiana, asked if they could join the game.
As a result, the two brothers are now members of the Newport Youth IW football club. Artem plays in goal, while Denys is a right winger.
The Isle of Wight Council has thanked Newport Youth IW FC, as well as the Isle of Wight community and local host families for their support.
