Isle of Wight based countryside management project Gift to Nature has announced two new sites.
Little Lynn Common and Bembridge Silt Lagoon are the latest locations to be added to the project portfolio.
There are 32 sites across the Island under Gift to Nature's care - these range from wide spaces such as Brading Down to urban oases like Castle Copse.
As well as being great places to see wildlife, many of the sites offer additional reasons to visit - from sensory trails to Geocaching, I-Spy Sheets to a song trail, there is a host of activities on offer.
Little Lynn Common is owned by the People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) and comprises heathland, gorse and a varied woodland.
The site is nestled within a triangle formed by Briddlesford Road and Combley Road, near Havenstreet.
It will be managed by the Gift to Nature ranger team according to a prescription devised by Natural England.
Although there hasn't been public access in the past, the rangers are working with the PTES to make this possible.
Bembridge Silt Lagoon is located off Embankment Road in Bembridge and is accessed from the old railway line footpath.
In the Autumn of 2024, we completed a large-scale project to encourage and accommodate waterfowl and other ground nesting birds by creating an open area for grazing and nesting.
This site is very much in the early stages of its development. Over the coming year, we will make observations and recordings to inform its management plan.
Gift to Nature ranger, Denny, said:
"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and wish you all a belated happy and safe New Year."
