Vehicle In High Speed Pursuit Unable To Be Found Say Police

The vehicle involved in a high-speed pursuit through several Island towns last night (Friday) was unable to be located, according to Hampshire Constabulary.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter was tasked to assist in last nights incident, which saw a vehicle fail to stop for officers on Medina Way at 8.26pm.

Units pursued the vehicle on several main roads including the dual carriageway, Fairlee and Lushington Hill.

Isle of Wight Radio listeners, driving at the time, reported that the vehicle had several near misses - including one driver who reported that the vehicle had been travelling at speed on the wrong side of the road.

The NPAS helicopter was called in to join the search at 8.30pm.

It spent several hours orbiting Wootton, Binstead, Fishbourne, and Ryde, whilst ground units patrolled housing estates and roads in areas of Wootton.

Hampshire Constabulary said that the silver Volkswagon Golf managed to make off from the pursuing units, and neither it nor its driver was able to be located.

Officers continue their investigations.
