A driver has narrowly avoided serious injury, after his car was impaled, and came to rest in a hedge at the side of the main road to East Cowes this morning (Sunday).
Emergency services including Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police, and Ambulance Service were called to the scene on Whippingham Shute shortly after 6am.
Isle of Wight Radio understands that one casualty managed to self-extricate from the vehicle, and was assessed by paramedics.
In pictures released by the Isle of Wight Police, a wooden stake is seen piercing through the windscreen, narrowly missing the drivers seat.
