Ventnor Coastguard team has been called to the beach in the town this morning (Tuesday).
It was called just after 7am to reports of clothes and towels on the beach - with no signs of anyone swimming.
A short search was carried out and no one was located or believed to be in difficulty.
The team stood down and described the incident as "a false alarm with good intent."
